    An Exhibit & Event Designer originates and develops ideas to design the architecture for a trade show or other event project. Specific job duties include:

    • Reads publications, attends showings, and consults with marketing, production, and sales representatives to establish design concepts.
    • Evaluates design ideas based on factors such as appealing appearance, design-function relationships, serviceability, materials and methods engineering, application, budget, price, production costs, methods of production, market characteristics, and client specifications.
    • Integrates findings and concepts and renders design ideas.
    • Presents design to design director and account manager and discuss need for modification and change.
    • Builds simulated models through computer renderings and physical mockups.
    • Prepares renderings.

    • Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) and/or certificate in Industrial Design, Exhibit Design, or 3D Design, with one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    A Star Exhibit and Event Consultant sells Star’s products and services to clients and prospective clients. They develop a business base in assigned geographic territory or territories, and maintain customer relations with existing accounts. Specific job duties include:

    • Compiles lists of prospective customers for use as sales leads, based on information from newspapers, business directories, industry ads, trade shows, Internet Web sites, and other sources.
    • Calls on regular and prospective customers to solicit orders, or talks with clients or prospects through face to face meetings.
    • Displays or presents the product and/or service, using samples and marketing collateral, and emphasizes salable features.
    • Quotes prices and credit terms and prepares sales contracts for orders obtained.
    • Estimates date of delivery to customer, based on knowledge of Star’s production and delivery schedules.
    • Prepares reports of business transactions and keeps expense accounts.
    • Enters new customer data and other sales data for current customers into computer database.
    • Develops and maintains relationships with purchasing contacts.

    Description

    Construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and other materials, conforming to location building codes and design specifications, by performing the following duties. This position is subject to collective bargaining agreements. Duties and requirements are subject to change. Specific job duties include:

    • Study CAD drawings for information pertaining to type of material required, such as lumber or fiberboard, and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated.
    • Prepare layout.
    • Mark cutting and assembly lines on materials.
    • Shape materials to prescribed measurements.
    • Assemble cut and shaped materials and fasten them together with nails, dowel pins, or glue.
    • Verify trueness of structure.
    • When required, erect framework for structures and lay subflooring for two story exhibit structures.
    • Build stairs and lay out and install partitions and cabinet work.
    • Apply shock-absorbing, sound-deadening, and decorative paneling to ceilings and walls.
    • Fit and install prefabricated frames, doors, doorframes, and finish hardware, such as locks and hinges.
    • When required, weld metal parts to steel structural members for two story structures.
    • Record time spent working on a job on the corresponding time sheet.

    Desired Background/Experience or Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); completed apprenticeship in related industry and/or at least 2 years working experience in the exhibit industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
    • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
    • Ability to apply concepts such as proportions, percentages, and basic geometry.
    • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
    • Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 65 lbs and occasionally lift and carry 80-100 lbs.
    • May come in contact with dust, vibrations, unprotected heights, fumes/gas, and chemicals.
